Craig Opticians are very pleased to sponsor Peter Craig in racing radio controlled cars at local, national and international levels.

Peter has been racing locally since he was 10 years old at his club Teesside Radio Car Club. Orginally racing 10th scale off-road cars he got a good grounding in the sport, but it was not until he started racing on-road that his true talents showed themselves.

He raced in the national electric, then nitro, saloon championships. In nitro he gained a "B" team drive with the Schumacher company and with regular A-final appearances, won the "Rubber" national at Snetterton in 2005.

In 2007 he decided to try his hand,or thumbs, at 12th scale racing. This is regarded by many as the pinnacle of the sport, demanding the highest levels of driving prescision.

Since becoming an "F1" rated driver after his first year he has been a regular B-finalist and had a number of A-final appearances.

When Serpent, a company more noted for nitro on-road cars, brought out their 12th scale model in 2008, Peter was invited to represent Serpent UK in the national series. Last season he finished 14th in the open modified championship and 12th in the stock championship.

This season has been frustrating. Peter has had problems at each national. Unfortunately the problems have all be different ones and have taken a lot of tracking down. His results have ranged between average and dissappointing.

The sport is going through something of a revolution in battery technology. Lipo (Lithium Ion/ polymer) power packs are taking over from NiMH (nickel metal hydride) cells. This has required a change in design of the chassis and Peter has been frustrated that Serpent have not released their new chassis (as of Feb 2010).

In March the UK is hosting the European Championship event at Hinckley. It is a much anticipated event and I will keep you up to date in due course.
